A 17-year-old Tamaqua male was cited early Monday morning after police determined he had been consuming alcohol.
Officers on patrol observed the teen walking in the area of Broad Street at 2:45 a.m. and stopped to check on the youth's condition.
As the teen was speaking to officers, telling them he was on his way home from a friend's, the odor of alcohol was detected on his breath.
The male admitted to drinking several cans of beer that he had taken from his mother's home.
He was transported to the station and given a portable breath test, which indicated a .108 blood alcohol content.
He was later released into the custody of his grandmother.
