Local fire departments plan fire prevention programs

Penn Forest Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 will hold an Open House in honor of National Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 9 - 15, 2011, from 6 to 9 p.m. today. Everyone is welcome to stop by the firehouse.Franklin Township Fire Co.Franklin Fire Co. will also host an Open House from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13 at the fire station, 2440 Fairland road. Featured this year will be tours of the facility and equipment. An auto rescue demonstration is planned using the "Jaws of Life". There will be a demonstration of the skills used to extinguish car fires and fire extinguisher training will be provided for anyone interested in learning this important skill.In addition, there will be a representative from the Carbon County Emergency Management Agency to advise residents on the agencies role in coordinating and assisting in local emergencies. The Eastern PA EMS Council will be on hand to allow inspection of the equipment used to assist and support our EMS and firefighters during large scale emergencies and public events. Lehighton Ambulance will also be available to take part in the demonstrations. Finally a helicopter landing is planned by Lehigh Valley Health Network Med Evac. Local firefighters will be on hand to answer your questions and offer practical advice on how to stay safe in our community.Lehighton Fire Department Lehighton Fire Department will host an open house from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12. at Lehighton Fire Department.
