Flooding issues between neighbors, not municipality, resident informed

The Walker Township board of supervisors advised a displeased resident Thursday evening at the municipal building on what to do about a neighbor whose self-made dam is ruining his property.

Resident Jim Wentworth said the water being diverted from his neighbor's property causes his lawn and basement to flood each time it rains."I pump water for seven, eight days (after it rains)," Wentworth said, "and my electric bill is phenomenal because I have three sump pumps in my cellar.""This is an issue between you and your neighbor," Township Solicitor Michael S. Greek said. "It has nothing to do with the municipality." When Greek said Wentworth's best option would be to take action against his neighbor, he replied, "So, when I shoot him, it'll be okay then."Also covered at the meeting was the failing bridge on Cold Run Road. The bridge is still in use, but has a six ton weight limit posted on it. One crowd member asked if when the bridge is fixed will regular-sized tractor trailers be able to use it, but Township Engineer Dave Horst said he wasn't sure what, if any, the weight restrictions will be.The board also began preparing a letter to Ron Madison of Rettew engineering company to provide comments about the Act 537 public sewage plan, which will cost residents $104 a month if implemented. It would be too expensive, the board argued, for residents to have to pay a sewer bill that high.A motion was also made and accepted with a 2 to 1 vote by the board to scrap a 1971 AM General dump truck and a 1970 Kaiser General dump truck. Because the bids to buy the trucks were for less than scrap metal prices, board member David Brice made the motion to take the trucks to the junkyard. Chairman Craig Wagner opposed the motion because he believes the township can get more for the trucks.Lastly, another motion was made and accepted to buy a new copier and printer for the municipal building at $500 or less.Next Walker Township board of supervisors meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday Nov. 3 at the municipal building.
