I-81 crash injures four

Four persons were injured Sunday afternoon when the sport utility vehicle they were in left Interstate 81 in Delano Township, Schuylkill County, and ended up on a railroad bed beneath the interstate.

State police at Frackville said Seth Macaluso, 20, of Shippensburg, was driving a 1997 Jeep Cherokee about 3:30 p.m. when it left the road for unknown reasons. The Jeep traveled about 150 yards in the center median where it struck a dirt bank. After impact with the bank the vehicle became airborne between the north and southbound lane bridge which crosses over a set of railroad tracks.The Jeep tumbled down the embankment and came to rest on its side alongside the tracks.Macaluso was flown by PennStar helicopter to St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill. Passengers Marisa Wickham, 20, of Harpersville, N.Y., and Silvya Petitfrere, 19, of Chambersburg, were flown by Medevac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. Passenger Hannah Crawford, no age given, of Chambersburg, was flown by Lifeflight helicopter to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.Troopers were assisted at the scene by several area fire companies, ambulance personnel and rescue units. The investigation into the crash is continuing, troopers said.
