Coat drive

The Tamaqua Area High School Leadership Council is sponsoring a winter coat drive. Code named Operation Give Warmth, the students are collecting lightly used winter coats and jackets, as well as new items, to benefit children in need.

A large collection box has been placed in the senior high school lobby, where it will remain through Nov. 21. Monetary donations are also being accepted and may be taken to the school's main office between the following hours: Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Class of 1962

The reunion committee for the Tamaqua Class of 1962 is seeking current addresses for three "missing" class members Carol Miller, Beverly Rice King and Carol Shellhamer Fredericks.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional and 10:30 a.m. contemporary worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery care and primary church are provided at the later service. New members will be received at both services.

Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.

"Surviving the Holidays," a support group for those dealing with the loss of a loved one, will meet at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Also on Sunday, the staff of TYM will meet at 11:45 a.m. and a worship service will be held at 2:30 a.m. at the Hometown Nursing Center.

Activities for next week will include: Wednesday, Prayer time at 8:30 a.m. and Tamaqua Youth Ministry will meet at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, musician rehearsal at 9 a.m., Praise practice at 9:30 a.m.; and quilters will meet at 10:30 a.m.

Calvary UM

The Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at this Sunday's 10:25 a.m. worship service in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

The annual old fashioned Harvest and Thanksgiving service will be celebrated on Nov. 20, at 6:30 p.m. National Bible Week will also be celebrated.

St. Peter's Union

The Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will include a special "Thankoffering" service by the Women's Association of St. Peter's. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the church board will meet at 10:45 a.m., Confirmation class will meet at 1 p.m. and Daisies, Brownies and Cub Scouts meet at 6 p.m.

First UM

The Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church. Adult Sunday school will meet at 9:30 a.m.

Also this Sunday, a free practical estate seminar will be presented at 3 p.m. by attorney Jeffrey Bowe and a covered-dish dinner will be held at 5:30 p.m., followed by preparations for the "Hanging of the Greens."

Activities for next week will include: Monday, board of trustees will meet at 6 p.m., church council will meet at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, quilters meet at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Chancel Choir practice at 7:30 p.m.

St. John UCC

The Rev. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. service this Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ. A time of fellowship will be held following the service. Sunday school classes meet at 11 a.m.

The weekly service is broadcast on radio station WLSH, AM1410, at 11:30 a.m. Sundays.

Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at noon, then go bowling at 4 p.m.
