Northern Lehigh School District has named a Nazareth man as its new director of special education.

The school board unanimously agreed on Monday to appoint Scot Engler to the post, at a salary of $92,000 (prorated 2011-12 school year), effective upon release from current employer, and pending verification of missing documents.

Engler, who had been director of special education in the Southern Lehigh School District since 2008, said he anticipates his start date will be the day after Thanksgiving break.

"I'm thrilled to be a Bulldog," Engler said. "I'm excited to get started."

After the meeting, Engler said he has "always been a huge child advocate."

The board's decision to select Engler came after it unanimously agreed to accept the resignation of Mary Kay Williamson, director of special education, effective Oct. 28, 2011.

After the meeting, Superintendent Michael Michaels told the TIMES NEWS that Williamson resigned due to personal reasons.
