Benefit held for man with carcinoid tumor

Monday, November 14, 2011
ANDREW LEIBENGUTH/TIMES NEWS Family and friends held a benefit event recently at the Ryan Township firehouse called "Amped Up for OJ" to benefit Oscar "OJ' Witmayer, Barnesville, who was diagnosed with carcinoid cancer on February 14, 2007. Carcinoid, also called carcinoid tumor, is a slow-growing type of neuroendocrine tumor, originating in the cells of the neuroendocrine system. Witmayer, a 1996 Mahanoy Area graduate, said, "My carcinoid is inoperable and no treatment is available." Donations can be made out to Oscar Witmayer and mailed to Schuylkill County Musicians Group, 449 Arlington Street, Tamaqua. Pictured from left during the benefit are friend Kenny Moyer, Oscar "OJ" Witmayer and OJ's girlfriend of 12-years Jenniver Whah.
