Northern Lehigh Future Focus (NLFF) presented one of its famous "Welcome Baskets" to the newest business in the area, Fred and Diane's Leather Shop, located at 27 Main Street in Walnuthport on the corner of Main and North Railroad streets.

Welcoming Fred and Diane Schererto the area was Les Glanz, NLFF Revitalization chairman, Henry Kline, mayor of Walnutport, Dan Stevens, NLFF president and Gary Fedorcha, vice president of NLFF and past president of the Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce.

"We would like to welcome you to the Greater Lehigh Valley area. We're always thrilled that a new business comes inot the area. You have a great unqiue shop. There's nothing like it near by. We wish you great success and welcome you to town," said Les Glanz, NLFF Revitalization chairman.

Fred and Diane, married 48 years, bought the shop with the intentions of fixing it up for someone to open a business.

"It needed a lot of fixing up. As we were renovating it, I thought it would be nice to have a leather shop here. So, that's what we did," says Fred.

The Scherers own a Harley Davidson motorcycle and know the needs of bikers.

They have been selling leather goods for years at gun shows and flea markets and thought it might be nice to offer those same items in a permanent home.

The shop sells CDs, tee shirts, leather jackets, chaps, vests, purses, pouches, saddle bags, belts, holsters, helmets, knives, tack pins and numerous other items.

Shop hours are Mondays-Thursdays, 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and some weekends.

The Scherers suggest calling first on weekends to see if they are open because they still take their wares to gun shows and flea markets.

The numbers to call are: 484-623-4955 or 610-760-0332.
