Vegetable Marketing program issues correction

The Pennsylvania Vegetable Marketing and Research Program is looking for recipe entries from Pennsylvania residents for the "Simply Delicious, Simple Nutritious" vegetable recipe contest. The original press release from the program contained some incorrect information. That release ran in the May 20 edition of the TIMES NEWS.

Four finalist recipes will be chosen in each of the following four categories: Snap Beans/Lima Beans/Peas, Broccoli/Cabbage/Cauliflower, Sweet Corn and Beets/Carrots/Turnips. The categories listed in the original release were incorrect. Because the categories published originally will most likely be the categories for next year's contest, program officials will notify persons submitting recipes for the incorrect categories that they will hold their entries until next year.A panel of four judges will review the written recipe entries and select 16 finalist recipes to be prepared at the cook-off.The entry deadline is June 30.Recipe entries must contain at least one of the vegetables in the category title as a major ingredient.Recipes will be chosen on the basis of creativity, nutrition/healthfulness, ease of preparation, and overall appeal.A $100 prize will be awarded to the winner in each category. Other finalists will each receive a $25 gift certificate for the farm market of their choice.Recipes must be created or modified by the contestant or a member of the contestant's family. Recipes previously published in a copyrighted publication will not be eligible. For more information about the contest, visit
