U. S. Marine Corps veteran Andy Leibenguth noticed that shrubs in front of the Tamaqua American Legion in Tamaqua were in need of replacement and took it upon himself to get the job done before Memorial Day. First, he painted a fence in front of the building, then dug out the old bushes and purchased new ones, which he planted on Tuesday. He also purchased fresh top soil for the project. Across the street at the Tamaqua Deli, patron Barb Kunkel noticed Leibenguth's hard work under the afternoon sun and brought him abottle of cold spring water. "He was working so hard with that axe," said Kunkel. The hard work is a typical day for Leibenguth, a tireless volunteer who last month was named the TamaquaCitizenship winner.
