Towamensing Township

Towamensing Township accepted a new bid for landfill and transfer station services during its monthly supervisors meeting Thursday.

The township received a single bid from Advanced Disposal Services after advertising for bids last month. Supervisors accepted a per ton rate of $72.25 for May 2019 to April 2020, which will increase by 75 cents each year over the next four years. The rate will eventually reach $74.50 in May 2022.

The per ton amount is an increase from the previous rate, which was $70 per ton.

In other news:

• Granted conditional approval for a two lot subdivision from L&W on Pohopoco Drive.

• Approved a time extension from Meisenhelder/Walk for a minor subdivision until June 10.

• Signed off on a completed reverse subdivision from Jerusalem United Church of Christ.

• Waived the fees on Hometown Veterans Banners, which are to be hung in the township, deeming them “government signs.”

• Approved a request from the Carbon County Fair for fire police support on Aug. 5 through Aug. 10.

In March, Towamensing Township Volunteer Fire Company responded to seven calls and one nonemergency event.

Towamensing Township Volunteer Fire Company will cease hosting its monthly all-you-can-eat breakfast for the spring and summer. The tradition will pick back up in the fall.

An Agricultural Security meeting was set for April 25 starting at 2 p.m.

Towamensing Township set its Spring Electronics Recycling Days from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday.

On those two days, Towamensing residents can bring their unwanted electronics to the township’s municipal building and have them recycled for free. Some items, like televisions, LCD monitors, CRT monitors, floor copiers and tires can be recycled for a fee.
