Barnyard Buddies and Donna

With a moo-moo here and a cluck-cluck there, Donna Honigman of Lehighton, brought some of her favorite Barnyard Buddies to visit with the children at Palmerton Area Library's Children's Hour.

Donna read several books about animals and gardens, two of her favorite subjects, often inviting the children to hop, jump, and make the sounds of animals found in the books. She brought along with her live rabbits and chickens which thrilled the children."They love to be able to touch and interact with live animals,"she says."I'm a strong advocate of reading. I like to collect books that help in promoting physical and cognitive therapy," says Donna, who has been working with special needs children and adults for 35 years. "I like to incorporate art and music and animals, all things that spark something in those I work with. It's about addressing the spiritual needs which in turn helps with the physical needs."Donna's Barnyard Buddies is a satellite program of Animal Therapy and Education Associates (ATEA) and she takes her program to assisted living facilities, nursing homes, day cares, church schools and libraries. She also volunteers with the Life Skills program in Jim Thorpe. You can learn more about Donna by visiting
