Lehighton team defends title

With all the games complete and the totals tallied, the Lehighton seniors, defending champions, remain the top dogs.

On Wednesday, seniors from Lehighton, Jim Thorpe, Panther Valley, Palmerton and Weatherly competed in the final day of competition of the 2011 Carbon County Senior Games.The overall standings at the end of the games were Lehighton in first with a score of 746, Jim Thorpe in second with 426, Panther Valley in third with a score of 175, Palmerton in fourth with 120 points and Weatherly with 42 points.The games will conclude today at 4 p.m., with a banquet at Mahoning Valley Ambulance Hall.The results for yesterday's event, which included Bingo, Pinochle, Rummy, the Polka, Slow Dancing and the Jitterbug are:Bingo: Esther Hartman of Lehighton, gold; Linda Daubenspeck of Lehighton, silver; and Harriet Lithkowsky of Weatherly, bronze.Pinochle: James Ketchledge of Lehighton, gold; Dawn Sheckler of Jim Thorpe, silver; and Tom Zuber of Panther Valley, bronze.Rummy: Sue Close of Jim Thorpe, gold; Connie DiJohn of Jim Thorpe, silver; and Catherine Schoch of Weatherly, bronze.Polka: Joe and Barbara Mustacchio of Lehighton, gold; Linda Bottcher and Linda Daubenspeck of Lehighton, silver; and Sandy Fritz and Fran Haas of Lehighton, bronze.Slow Dance: Joe and Barbara Mustacchio of Lehighton, gold; John and Sharon DeWald of Jim Thorpe, silver; and Henry Long and Fran Haas of Lehighton, bronze.Jitterbug: Linda Bottcher and Linda Daubenspeck of Lehighton, gold; Don and Helen Neifert of Panther Valley, silver; and Sandy Fritz and Fran Haas of Lehighton, bronze.Correction: In Tuesday's ping pong results, James Ketchledge was misidentified as a Palmerton team member.
