Weatherly American Legion honors essay contest winners

The winners of two separate essay contests were honored at the meeting at Weatherly American Legion Post 360 this week.

There were eight winners of the Auxiliary's 2011 Americanism Essay Contest on the subject "How can I encourage my friends to show pride in being an American ?"They were Class I - Grades 3 & 4 : Kathleen Graham 1st place; Laila Panckeri 2nd place; Class II - Grades 5 & 6 : Lynn M. Gunderman 1st place; Class III - Grades 7 & 8 : Andrew Solonoski 1st place; Olivia Winheld 2nd place; Class IV - Grades 9 & 10 : Jaquiline Watkins 1st place; and Class V - Grades 11 & 12 : Karlee Ursta 1st place; Corey Furmanchin 2nd place.There were two winners of the American Legion Essay Contest on the subject "What are the pros & cons of off-shore drilling ?"They were : Sarah Peiser 1st place and Krista Lutzick 2nd place.Presenting the awards for the Auxiliary was Joan Drasher, Co-Chairman and presenting the awards for the American Legion was Tom Keener, Post Commander.
