Two bikers were injured Friday afternoon in a freak accident along SR309 in Lynn Township, Lehigh County.

The crash occurred just after 2 p.m. as the two were operating their motorcycles south descending the south side of the Blue Mountain. As they were riding in the far right lane a large dead tree fell from the right berm, laying over the guard rail onto the roadway.

It is unknown if the tree struck the two or if they took evasive action to avoid the tree. One bike skid over a hundred feet before coming to rest on its side and bursting into flames. A second bike with a female operator slid several hundred feet before coming to rest in the south bound lane.

The two were treated at the scene and transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital Trauma Center in Allentown. State police at Fogelsville are investigating the incident. SR309 was closed for several hours.
