Tractor trailer strikes parked rig

An operator of a tractor trailer was injured this morning when involved in a crash along the north bound lanes of I-81 Ryan Township, Schuylkill County. The crash occurred just before 7 a.m. as the driver was traveling north and struck a tractor trailer which was parked along the right berm. The rig, hauling a 112,000-pound rock crusher, continued on, entering the south berm and coming to rest against an earth embankment. The operator was treated at the scene and transported to an area hospital since no medical transport helicopters were available due to the heavy rain and dense fog at the time of the crash. The driver of the parked rig was not injured in the mishap and told state police he pulled over to take a break. The parked tractor trailer is owned by a firm in Maryland and was hauling processed vegetables for Sysco Food Services. The injured driver told state police he swerved for a deer running across the roadway. State police at Frackville are investigating the incident.
