Rep. Jerry Knowles (R-Berks/Schuylkill) today issued the following statement regarding gov. Tom Corbett's proposed budget:

"Today we heard the same message from Governor Corbett that we heard from candidate Corbett last year. He clearly understands that Pennsylvania does not have a tax problem. It has a spending problem. After eight years of spending increases from our last governor, this governor has offered a budget that recognizes that we will all have to sacrifice if we are going to solve our fiscal problems.

"Last November, Pennsylvania gave us a mandate. They said they wanted us to get government spending under control and start living within our mean. The budget the governor proposed today reduces spending by nearly $1 billion. That is a tremendous step in the right direction.

"Now that the governor has submitted his proposal, I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Legislature to complete the budget process on time."
