Some major improvements are planned for the Ginder Field playground in Summit Hill.

Monica Marshall, chairman of the Summit Hill Recreation Commission, said the improvements include adding five new rides, painting the fire truck ride, adding picnic tables to the pavilion and painting the concession stand.

She said it is anticipated the work will be done this year.

The fire truck, a climbing toy, is made from metal pipes. The paint on it has been peeling.

Marshall said if all goes as planned, the new rides could be installed by the end of July.

The concession stand and bathrooms are slated for painting, she said.

She said the pavilion needs a new roof and pillars, but meanwhile new tables are planned.

In other recreation commission news, Marshall said the community yard sale will be conducted on Saturday, July 2. No tables will be set up in Ludlow Park.

She also thanked everyone who attended or assisted with running the annual Stay-At-Home Festival over Memorial Day weekend.

"We're looking at a lot of changes for next year," she said, without elaborating.

The festival raises money for both the Recreation Commission and the Summit Hill Fire Department.

Events also discussed included:

Ÿ Possibly a movie night to take place in Ludlow Park in July. It would be a "family night with popcorn and hot dogs," Marshall noted.

Ÿ "Cruizin' In the Park" to take place in Ludlow Park on Aug. 13.

Ÿ A "Kids' Picnic" is slated for Aug. 27.
