Driver hits police cruiser, then flees

Two Monroe County residents are facing charges after the vehicle they were riding in hit a state police cruiser and then the two fled the scene, but were caught. State police at Lehighton said the incident occurred about 12:10 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, at the intersection of Kunkletown and Fiddletown roads, in Eldred Township.

Troopers Todd Jones and Kristen Bauchspies were on patrol and sitting in a stationary position at a stop sign at the above stated intersection when a vehicle, traveling in the opopsite direction, struck the cruiser and then took off.Troopers said the driver of the vehicle was located a short time later and identified as Thomas James Ruck, 19, of Saylorsburg. He was found to be under the influence of alcohol. Ruck is facing charges of fleeing and attempting to elulde police, driving under the influence (DUI), accidents involving attended vehicles and several other motor vehicle code violations.Ruck's passenger was Matthew Serfass, 25, of Kunkletown. He will be charegd with furnishing alcohol to Ruck, a minor.Neither trooper was injured in the incident.
