If you're interested in a healthier, alternative way to tan, the professional sunless spray tanning currently offered at True Spa and Skin Care Center in Palmerton could be your ticket.
The new service is FDA approved, and produces a tan that is quick and natural looking, according to owner Tricia Schaefer.
Schaefer said the special ingredient used in the process is dihydroxyacetone, which is derived from sugarcanes and beets.
"It creates a tanned experience on skin by developing a brown color," Schaefer said. "It's the same process that occurs when you slice an apple and it turns brown."
Schaefer addressed a common concern as to whether the skin will turn orange.
"No, because we have a free pH balancing spray treatment before the session that neutralizes the skin's acid," she said. "They should shave the day before, shower and exfoliate the day of service, not wear any perfumes or moisturizers on the skin, and wear loose-fitting clothing to go home in."
Schaefer said the spray tan can last anywhere from seven to nine days. The cost for the service is $25.
True Spa also offers other summer time specials: a one-hour Swedish massage ($40); an Express Organic Mani or Pedi ($25); and an Oxygen-infused facial that helps treat against sun damage, anti-aging skin and acne ($30).
There are also several tanning solutions: 100-percent organic; a natural solution; and a quicker processing solution that develops within one to three hours.
Herbal neck/body wraps ($10) and eye wraps ($8) made by resident from the Village at Palmerton are also available for purchase. The wraps can be used hot or cold.
However, Schaefer said the summer time specials exclude gift certificates. True Spa does not except gratuities, she said.
