The Coaldale High School Alumni organization has donated money to the Coaldale Fire Company and to the Coaldale Veterans and Women's Memorial.

After a very successful reunion at Genetti's in Hazleton on May 29, the reunion committee reviewed its financial position and voted to donate $1,500 to each of the selected organizations.Faye Lewis, chair person of the reunion committee, said the "alumni of Coaldale High School continue to be very generous. These monetary gifts will be put to good use by these two very deserving organizations.""We will be able to afford the first of four black granite images we wish to place on the Women's Memorial Wishing Well. The first image will be of Mrs. Mary Nesterak, Coaldale's last surviving Gold Star Mother. Mary will be shown holding a portrait of her son, U.S. Army Captain Norman Nesterak, who gave the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam in 1968. The remaining three images will also honor Coaldale women heroes, who loved, supported, and prayed for the safe return of their loved ones from 'harm's way'."It is such a privilege to be able to honor Mrs. Mary Nesterak," William Gaddes, member of the Veterans and Women's Memorial Committee, said after receiving the $1,500 gift.Lewis and Mildred Flyzik attended the monthly meeting of the Coaldale Fire Company. Lewis commended the company for their unselfish service and dedication to keeping our town safe. "Many tragedies have been averted by your prompt and efficient action. Thanks for caring about our town and those who live here. Keep up the good work," she told the firefighters.Kevin Steber, Vice President of the Coaldale Fire Company, said the "money will put to good use. It is very much appreciated."
