Nesquehoning man faces charges

A Nesquehoning man faces a charge of receiving stolen property after he was found to have two safes that had been stolen from a home last year.

Nesquehoning police report that on April 12, officers were called to a home on West Marconi Avenue. There, the caller told police that Wash Tyahla, 54, of West Marconi Avenue was in possession of the safes that he had reported stolen from his home last September.

When police arrived, they asked Tyahla what was going on and he said that someone was at the home that was not wanted but left before police arrived.

The victim’s girlfriend was also at the home and told police that Tyahla had the safes inside a recycling bin, which was on out on the curb.

Police located the safes and the victim had the key to one of them and the packet with the matching model number for the other.

The victim and his girlfriend told police they learned Tyahla had their safes from another friend.

The girlfriend then admitted that Tyahla had allowed two of his friends, who had stolen the safes from the victim, to leave them in his basement, all of which Tyahla denied.
