Aware that the Carbon County Friends of Animals was robbed last month and have no money to care for their animals, the owners of Molly Maguires Pub and Steakhouse in downtown Jim Thorpe decided to do something about it.
To raise much-needed funds, Noel and Bernadette Behan recently held a special benefit on the large spacious deck of the pub located in Hazard Square and it ran from 6 pm to 10 pm.
"The CCFOA is in a catastrophic situation," the Behans said. "We both felt we had to do something to help them out."
Thanks to generous donors, over $2,000 was raised for the local Friends of Animals on the night. In addition to that, the Behan family also donated part of their night's proceeds to CCFOA.
There was no cover charge to attend and there was live music and complimentary snack foods for all attending compliments of the Behan family.
The live musical entertainment was by The Shellshocked Churchills consisting of local artists Maury, Timmy, and Jodi.
There were donation cans located at several spots around the deck to receive monetary donations from patrons and diners.
There were also hourly 50-50 raffles and all donations collected went to the Carbon County Friends of Animals.
The Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) donated $100 to the CCFOA and the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee also donated $100.
The Behans noted that this may become a yearly event to aid them because it helps a great cause.
