Tamaqua Mayor Chris-tian P. Morrison was unanimously elected chair of the Schuylkill County Democratic Committee at a meeting of the executive committee on June 16.
He succeeds Edward M. Klecha who retired from the position. Klecha was also unanimously elected chair emeritus in recognition of his years of exceptional service to the party.
Morrison, 41, was raised in Rush Township and is a 1988 Tamaqua High School graduate. He has been employed as an automotive electrician for the Kovatch Corporation in Nesquehoning since 1995.
He was elected Tamaqua mayor in 2005 and re-elected in 2009.
Morrison won the 2004 Democratic nomination for state representative in the 124th Legislative District, served as president of the Eastern Schuylkill County Democratic Executive Board since 2004 and has been 124th Legislative District chairman since 2009.
His community involvements include Southward Fire Company member, Southward Neighborhood Committee, Schuylkill County 2010 Census Board, 21st Century Community Learning Center Advisory Board, American Legion Post 173, Schuylkill County Advisory Board for the National Children's Health Study, PA State Mayors' Association, Association of Mayors of Boroughs of PA, Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs.
He is president of the Schuylkill County Boroughs' Association.
Morrison has also served as meeting chair of the Tri-County Polycythermia Vera Advisory Committee.
