South Tamaqua incident draws rapid response

A West Penn Township man was detained late Thursday afternoon after an incident involving police from numerous departments in Schuylkill and Carbon counties.

The man, identified as James Barron, was reportedly distraught over a financial dispute with a close relative.The incident began just before 4 p.m. when it was reported a man was armed with a rifle at his home along Franklin Drive, located across SR443 at the Leiby's intersection in the village of South Tamaqua.Police vehicles staged themselves a safe distance away at the Dunn's Farm Market, located at the intersection. After surrounding the home, police took the suspect into custody at gunpoint.Traffic was affected at the intersection of routes SR443 and SR309 for a short while.
