New Tamaqua cruiser

Tamaqua Patrolmen Matt Bynon and Matt Houser prepare to christen the newest addition to the police department's fleet of squad cars. The 2009 Dodge Charger, Unit 176, was put into service on Wednesday. In addition to a 5.7 HEMI engine, the new car has a special police package consisting of a prisoner partition, push bumper-bar, low profile lighting, modified back seats that prevent suspects from hiding items, as well as a number of other features. Tamaqua Borough Council approved the purchase of the car at it's May 17 meeting. A used vehicle, the cruiser came to the department with 25,493 miles on it and was purchased from Kovatch Ford for $21,500.
