The Palmerton Area Library, located at 402 Delaware Ave. Palmerton, is kicking off their summer reading program with a Rock Concert for Kids on Wednesday June 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the upstairs gallery. Ricky and his band from Allentown will be back again to entertain kids and adults with traditional kid songs played to a rock beat. his concert is free and open to the public. The library will be rockin' and rollin' to a different beat so come join the fun.
The theme for this summer's reading program is "One World, Many Stories". Through the use of games, stories, puppets, art, music and other activities the participants will learn about other countries and other people around the globe.
Preschool Circle Time for kids ages 3-5 will be held in the gallery every Thursday morning from 10:30-11:30 a.m. beginning June 16 and ending on July 28. This program will include stories, songs, games and rhythm instruments.
The Summer Reading Club for children in kindergarten through grade six will be held on Fridays from 10:30-11:30 a.m. beginning on July 17 and ending on July 29. There will be no program on July 1. The participants will enjoy stories, puppets, crafts, games, contests and service projects.
The ending celebration for all age groups will be held on Friday July 29 at 10:30 a.m. in the gallery. "Bugs, Baboons, and Story Tunes" will be presented by singer and guitarist/banjoist Tom Sieling. This program will include humorous, very participatory (sometimes even a bit athletic!) songs for kids that engage the whole family. This special program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and is free and open to the public.
The library is sponsoring another summer reading contest for the whole community this summer. Adults, teen and kids are invited to come to the library to sign up for the "Read Around the World" contest. It's free. All you need to do is sign up and turn in a slip with the name of each book you read this summer from June 1 to Sept. 1 to be eligible to win prizes. There are 5 different teams according to age groups. As more books are read, the reading chain for each team will begin to grow. Who will read the most books this summer; teens, adults, preschoolers, elementary kids? Stop in today to sign up.
