A Lehigh Township man was jailed on Monday following a shooting incident at his home in which he allegedly shot his grandmother.
Township police said they were called to 4461 W. Mountain View Drive about 4:40 a.m. to a report of a gunshot victim.
Upon arrival officers spoke with the victim, identified as Sharon Giovatto, 64.
She said Michael Giovatto, 24, her grandson, had shot her with a shotgun while inside her bedroom.
Police said they found Giovatto a short time later in the basement of the home and took him into custody. Police then obtained a search warrant for the home and found a 12 gauge shotgun with a 17-inch barrel, several shotgun shells and a blood-soaked T-shirt belonging to the suspect.
Giovatto was charged with criminal attempt to commit homicide, aggravated and simple assault, reckless endangerment, prohibited offensive weapons, possession of instruments of crime and persons not to possess firearms.
He was arraigned before District Judge Robert A. Hawke, of Cherryville, and committed to the Northampton County Prison in Easton, in lieu of $1 million bail.
