Miller Bloodmobile

Miller-Keystone Blood Center will conduct its next bimonthly bloodmobile visit to Palmerton on Tuesday, June 7. As usual, the location will be the First United Church of Christ, next to borough hall. This visit is sponsored by Larry and Sandra Engle.

Palmerton is fortunate to have a number of faithful donors who appear for nearly every bloodmobile. However, new donors are always needed. Minimum requirements are: 17 years old, 110 pounds, and general good health. Each prospective donor gets a free mini-physical: blood pressure, temperature, pulse, hemoglobin (iron level), and if they donate, total cholesterol.

Refreshments include sandwiches, snacks, and soft drinks, plus the knowledge that a single donation can save up to three lives.

To make an appointment, or for more information call George Ashman at (610) 826-2097.

Donors with appointments are given priority at registration. Walk-ins are also welcome.

First-time donors should bring photo ID, such as a driver's license. Previous Miller donors, please bring your Miller card.

Registration hours are 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and 3 to 5:30 p.m.

In addition to reserved parking spaces on Delaware Avenue in front of the church, there is permission to park at Penn Northeast (both sides of the building), and the former Golden Key IGA, 5th and Delaware.

Miller-Keystone is the sole supplier of blood and blood products to all the hospitals in Carbon, Lehigh, and Northampton counties and beyond.

Newspaper drive

The men and boys of St. John's Lutheran Church will hold their monthly newspaper drive on Saturday, June 4. There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola, and Little Gap areas beginning at 8 a.m.

Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of the collectors. They are collecting papers only, no magazines. The shiny inserts are acceptable. They also need grocery-size brown paper bags.

Persons missed, or those wishing to dispose of papers throughout the month, may take them to the garage across from the church on Fireline Road, which is always open. In case of bad weather, the drive will be held the following Saturday.

Knitting Club

The Knitting Club will meet from 6-8 p.m., Monday, June 6, at the Palmerton Area Library. The club is for all area residents interested in knitting, crocheting, and other crafts.

The group meets in the library on the first and third Monday of each month. The club is free, and new members are always welcome.

For information, call the library at (610) 826-3424.

Holy Trinity Lutheran

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton, will hold its annual church picnic for members and guests at 10:45 a.m., Sunday June 5, at the Palmerton Memorial Park.

Bring a lawn chair and enjoy a day full of fun, food and fellowship.
