The West End Rotary Club held their annual Installation and Awards Dinner at The Hamilton in Saylorsburg.

The club's motto is "Service Above Self" and has spent the last year raising funds to offset the needs within the local and worldwide community. From purchasing warm winter coats for West End residents in need and items for local fire companies to help them do their jobs better, to distributing dictionaries to the Pleasant Valley School District's third graders, awarding scholarships, donating to the American Cancer Society, purchasing Shelter Boxes for areas devastated by disasters and working toward eradicating poliomyelitis/infantile paralysis.The club installed a new slate of officers and directors and awarded the Service Above Self award and Paul Harris fellowships. The officers for 2011-2012 are: President: Karin-Susan Breitlauch; President-elect: Jill Rehrig; Vice President: Debbie Borger; Past President: Theresa Yocum; Secretary: Diana Cardwell; Treasurer: Frank Mullane; Sergeant-at-arms: Dave Pierce.The directors and their assistants are: Club Administration-Joey Krawitz, David O'Neill; Rotary Foundation-Honi Grasing, Karen Ecke; Public Relations-Jeff Widmer, Todd Moore; Membership-Joanie Loveless, Kevin Noll; Service Projects-Jill Rehrig, Janet Fisher; New Generations-Daria Uhlig, Brandie Belanger.Rotarian of the Year was awarded to Diana Cardwell for her dedication, her untiring work on Rotary projects and for her role as the club's secretary.President Breitlauch presented member Jim Manello with the Service Above Self Award, saying he was selected because of his dedication and hard work on all the Rotary projects but especially the 5K race and the garden at the intersection of Rt. 209 and Fairgrounds Rd. in Gilbert.Past District Governor Bob Wehe presented the West End Rotary Club with the prestigious Presidential Citation for demonstrating Rotary commitment to fellowship and service. To qualify for the Presidential Citation, a club has to complete a questionnaire to test their activities in all four Avenues of Service, which are, Club, Vocational, Community and International Service. Each of the four categories offers a possible 50 points. Clubs that score at least 25 points in each category qualify for the Presidential Citation. It is determined by the district governor. President Breitlauch proudly accepted the Citation on behalf of the club.Five club members were recognized as Paul Harris Fellows. Rotary Foundation director Honi Grasing presented them to the gathering. They are: David Pierce, Jim Manello, Jeff Widmer, Joey Krawitz, Joanie Loveless and Honi Grasing. If a member donates $1,000 or more to the Annual Programs Fund, PolioPlus, or the Humanitarian Grants Program, or people who have that amount contributed in their name, can be recognized as Paul Harris Fellows. Each new Paul Harris Fellow receives a commemorative certificate and a pin.
