Members and volunteers with the Pennsylvania Soldiers Angels' spent numerous hours Wednesday sorting and boxing hundreds of donations at their Lehighton office, 178 South First St., received during the 2nd annual Penn's Peak Radio and Jukebox Cruiser's Christmas in July for our Soldiers event held July 5th at Penn's Peak. Pat Clemens, Tamaqua, who serves as local veterans support volunteer, was given the task of dispersing the donations to various veterans groups and servicemen serving overseas. Clemens chose to provide the donations to the PA Soldiers Angels. More than 45 boxes filled with all types of donations, ranging from antibiotic to beef jerky, will be mailed next Wednesday, courtesy of money raised during the event and via PA Soldiers Angels', to an individual military person or unit. Rae McLaughlin, oldiers' Angels National Community Network Coordinator and Pennsylvania State Coordinator, is asking family members of loved ones serving overseas to contact them with their APO address, so they can mail care packages to them. McLaughlin mentioned that shipping is one of the most expensive aspects of the operation, pointing out the already-discounted rate of $12.95 that the USPS charges to mail flat rate packages to overseas APO addresses. To donate, volunteer, join or for more information about the Soldiers Angels', call McLaughlin at (610) 751-6186 or via their facebook page.
