Coaldale police have charged a Jim Thorpe woman, whose blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit, with two counts of driving under the influence (DUI).

Elisah Wonsock, 27, of 416 Center Ave., was charged by Officer Jeremy Talanca in June 11.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, here's what happened:

At 1:40 a.m., Talanca was on a roving DUI patrol when he noticed a green 1995 Chevrolet Blazer traveling east in front of him without a properly functioning license plate light. Talanca pulled the car over at SR209 and First Street.

Talanca noticed that as the driver pulled to the right, she struck the curb with her right tires before stopping. The woman, identified as Wonsock, had a strong smell of alcohol on her breath.

Wonsock admitted to having had six beers before getting behind the wheel. She failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for DUI. She was taken to the police station for a breath sample. Wonsock's blood alcohol level was measured at 0.181 percent. The threshold for drunken driving is 0.08 percent.

She was later released and advised that charges would be filed.
