A Carbon County restaurant owner is facing charges for allegedly getting meat and seafood price discounts at a Sam's Club store from an employee after paying him off.

Colonial Regional police have charged Hassan Chafiq, 47, of Effort. Chafiq is owner of the Trattoria 903 restaurant which is located in the Bear Creek Plaza off SR903 in Penn Forest Township.According to the police report Chafiq underpaid by $1,593 from September to December 2010. The employee was paid by Chafiq between $30 and $100 in exchange for underweighing bulk purchases. Police said the incidents occurred at least seven times.The police said the purchases included 240 pounds of strip loin, 72 units of lump crab and 80 pounds of lobster tails.Chafiq is charged with criminal conspiracy to commit retail theft and receiving stolen property. He was arraigned on the charges on Thursday and released on $2,500 bail.
