Route 93 in the borough of Nesquehoning was closed to traffic after a tractor trailer operator lost control of the rig as he was descending the Broad Mountain. The crash occurred at 4:30 a.m. today as the unit was traveling south. The driver apparently lost control, striking several portions of the guide rails while crossing all three lanes of the roadway. The rig came to rest along the guide rails along the east berm. The saddle tank of the truck tractor was ripped from the unit and was ejected over the guide rails and down a steep embankment of about 60 feet. The operator was treated at the scene by members of the Nesquehoning Ambulance and Lehighton paramedics, then transported to Gnaden Huetten campus of the Blue Mountain Health System in Lehighton. Responding were the Nesquehoning, Hauto and New Columbus fire companies. Nesquehoning police are investigating the incident.
