For its impressive accomplishments, members of the Northern Lehigh High School football team were honored Monday.

The school board presented the 2010 football team with a resolution in light of their terrific season.

It was a year in which the team finished 13-1, won the Colonial League Championship, captured the District XI AA Championship, and competed in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class AA State Quarterfinal game.

In addition, head coach Joe Tout was named the Colonial League Coach of the Year, and the team had three members - Cody Remaley, first team running back, Jake Kern, first team defensive specialist, and Carl Sahlberg, second team offensive lineman - receive All-State Honors.

The team also had nine members receive All-Colonial League Honors. They were Mike Buresh, first team defensive end; Matt Gill, first team inside linebacker; Caleb Johnson, second team outside linebacker; Kern, first team safety and second team wide receiver; Remaley, first team running back; Daniel Ruth, second team guard, Sahlberg, first team offensive tackle; and Kyle Schomp, first team defensive tackle.

Board President Edward Hartman told the team and their coach that their accomplishments won't go unnoticed.

"The 2010 Northern Lehigh High School football team has brought distinction, acclaim, recognition and appreciation to Northern Lehigh School District," Hartman said. "The Northern Lehigh School District Board of Education proclaims its admiration and appreciation for the coaches, team members, parents and all other supporters for the 2010 Northern Lehigh High School football team."

Hartman told the group they should continue to strive for excellence in all their future endeavors.

"This is something we're presenting to you with great pride on our part," he said. "We offer our sincere congratulations and wish you the best of luck in whatever you decide to do and the school you decide to go to."

Ÿ Approved the appointment of Kyle Turner as temporary vacancy replacement, first grade, Peters Elementary, replacing an employee who was granted a leave of absence, at the substitute teacher rate days 1-30; Day 31 and beyond $42,435 prorated, Step 1 Bachelors on the 2010-11 CBA salary schedule, effective Feb. 7, 2011, with a termination date upon exhaustion of teacher's 12 week leave on May 2, 2011.

Ÿ Approved the appointment of Melissa Black as a temporary vacancy replacement, elementary Music teacher, replacing an employee who was granted a sabbatical for the second semester of the 2010-11 school year, at a salary of $42,435 prorated, Step 1 Bachelors on the 2010-11 CBA salary schedule, effective Jan. 27, 2011, with a termination date on or about June 20, 2011. The appointment is pending verification of missing paperwork.

Ÿ Approved the appointment of Stephen Reimert, as a temporary vacancy replacement, middle school Social Studies, replacing an employee who was granted a leave of absence, at the substitute teacher rate days 1-30; Day 31 and beyond, $42,435 prorated, Step 1 Bachelors on the 2010-11 CBA salary schedule, effective Jan. 24, 2011, with a termination date upon exhaustion of teacher's 12 week leave on April 18, 2011.

Ÿ Appointed Black as elementary chorus adviser at a shared stipend of $290.

Ÿ Approved the request of employee #3250 to take a family medical leave beginning on Jan. 24, 2011, for their own medical reasons. The employee will be using accumulated sick days in conjunction with the family medical leave. The employee plans to return to current teaching position upon release from their attending physician on or about April 18, 2011.

Ÿ Approved the request of Suzanne Mengel, Slatington Elementary Guidance Counselor, to take an unpaid leave of absence on May 31 and June 1, 2011. She is requesting to use these two unpaid days in conjunction with owner personal day on May 27, 2011, so she can attend a family function in Arizona. Correspondence received from the Education Association states that this request will not be considered as precedent setting for future requests.

Ÿ Approved Robin Blocker as an unpaid volunteer aide in the middle school for the 2010-11 school year.

Ÿ Acknowledged that instructional assistant Denise Hoffman has achieved Highly Qualified Status and has supplied proof of such status to the superintendent's office. Hoffman is entitled to a $1 per hour salary increase for the 2010-11 school year per the memorandum of understanding with the Educational Support Staff.

Ÿ Acknowledged that teacher Jennifer Butz has completed the requirements per the collective bargaining agreement that would entitle her to a salary increase for the second half of the 2010-11 school year from Step 4B+24 to Step 4M.

Ÿ Acknowledged that teacher Melissa DeFrain has completed the requirements per the collective bargaining agreement that would entitle her to a salary increase for the second half of the 2010-11 school year from Step 4B+24 to Step 4M.

Ÿ Approved Sharon Fehlinger, Math; Jacqueline Leslie, Physics; Trisha Loch, Elementary; Jordan Smith, Health & Physical Education; Matthew Sutjak, Social Studies; Courtney Wehr, Elementary and Middle Level Math 7-9; and Katie White, Biology, as substitute teachers for the 2010-11 school year at the 2010-11 substitute teacher rates as approved on the supplementary personnel salary schedule. Fehlinger, Loch and Wehr are pending verification of missing documents.

Ÿ Approved Kimberly Antolick and Melanie Mohr as substitute aides for the 2010-11 school year at the 2010-11 substitute rate as approved on the supplementary personnel salary schedule. Mohr is pending verification of missing documents.

Ÿ Approved Mohr as a substitute cook's helper for the 2010-11 school year at the 2010-11 substitute rate as approved on the supplementary personnel salary schedule, pending verification of missing documents.

Ÿ Approved Kimberly Antolick as a substitute custodian for the 2010-11 school year at the 2010-11 substitute rate as approved on the supplementary personnel salary schedule.

Ÿ Approved the Agreement of Sponsorship to Attend Another Pennsylvania Community College for Tyler Ritz, in accordance with the guidelines established under Policy #912. Beginning in the spring of 2011, he will be a full-time student at Northampton Community College to pursue his course of study in Culinary Arts.

Ÿ Approved to enter into a five-year service agreement with PenTeleData for one Gigabit Point to Point connectivity between Slatington Elementary School and Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit #21 in the amount of $1,300 per month.

Ÿ Approved to enter into a five-year service agreement with PenTeleData for Dark Fiber Point to Point connectivity between Slatington Elementary and Peters Elementary School in the amount of $1,350 per month.

Ÿ Approved to enter into a three-year service agreement with PenTeleData for T1 connectivity between Slatington Elementary School and Peters Elementary School in the amount of $400 per month. This telecommunications line is for telephone connectivity only.

Ÿ Accepted the 2009-10 audit and management report for the single audit ending June 30, 2010. A copy of the audit was distributed at the Jan. 10, 2011 school board meeting.

Ÿ Granted homebound instruction for a 12th grade student, Student No. 1110860, for five hours per week, effective Jan. 10, 2011, and continuing until April 10, 2011.

Ÿ Granted homebound instruction for a ninth grade student, Student No. 1490037, for five hours per week, effective March 16, 2011, and continuing until May 9, 2011.
