Schuylkill County Treasurer Jackie McGovern reminds residents that 2011 dog licenses are now available. Dogs 3 months of age or older must be licensed.
Licenses may be obtained at the county courthouse in Pottsville, by mail or at a variety of licensing agents. Locally, those agents include AAA at 202 E. Broad St.; Tom's Auto and Marine, Greenwood Street and Mountain Avenue; and Koch's Farm Service in the Lewistown Valley.
For more information, call McGovern's office at (570) 628-1433.
The Tamaqua Area School District destroys the records of special education students seven years after a student graduates, moves out of the district or drops out of school. Parents/guardians who would like copies of their child's records may make arrangements by calling (570) 668-2566. Copy fees will be charged, at 25 cents per single side page. A compete notice is posted on the TASD website at www.tamaqua.k12.pa.us
With the possibility of winter weather lurking every week, Tamaqua residents are reminded of borough rules concerning sidewalks.
Property owners are required to maintain a clear path, at least three feet wide, on sidewalks. Snow and/or ice must be removed from these pathways within 24 hours of the end of a snowstorm.
Snow, ice and other materials may not be thrown into the streets. Fines may be imposed on anyone caught throwing snow or ice into the street or who fails to maintain a snow-free pathway.
In addition, individuals who plow snow from in front of homes and businesses must REMOVE any piles of snow they create. Anyone piling snow in the street/parking areas could be cited.
Residents are also to refrain from piling snow near fire hydrants or on top of storm drains.
Further information is available by calling (570) 668-3444 or (570) 668-0300.
