Jim Thorpe man facing drug counts

Mahoning Township police charged a Jim Thorpe man with drug law violations after a Feb. 3 traffic stop along SR209.

According to a report released by Police Chief Kenneth Barnes, officers stopped the vehicle at 11:51 p.m. at Packerton Dam Drive for an equipment violation. When the officer approached the driver of the vehicle he could smell the odor of marijuana emitting from inside the vehicle. The officer then observed in plain view drug paraphernalia that is commonly used for using marijuana.A further search of the car resulted in finding marijuana and pills that are on the controlled substance list. The driver is being charged with Drug Act Violations via a criminal complaint summons. The man charged is in his 20s. His identity is not being released at this time due to further investigation.
