Santa's most active elves were doing their best to bring smiles to the residents of Blue Mountain Health Systems, The Summit, on Wednesday night.

The "elves" were Lehighton School District's support staff, a diverse group of employees, which includes secretaries, paraprofessionals, cafeteria staff and custodians. They delivered 244 personal items to residents at The Summit.The smiles were worth it.For Ann Rehrig, she and other residents at the center, had the opportunity to select two items -such as shampoo, creme rinse, body wash or lotion - as their gift."This is so nice," said Rehrig. "Who are you?""We're the Lehighton School District," Lori German said.German said that as soon as the word went out of what they had wanted to do, they received support. Donors toward the cause were Bio-Haz Solution, K & N Auto Enterprises, Rocky Ahner Doors and Windows and Steigerwalt Chiropractic.Elise Delgreco, a resident who is 102 years old, held a lively conversation with Brenda Eckley and Julie Willet. Delgreco said she was born in England and comes from a large family. She was pleased with the gifts from the visitors.Emily Baier smiled as she picked out body lotion and body wash."Thank you for stopping by," said Baier. "This was really nice."Also, the staff visited Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where they presented 132 boxes of tissues to the residents at that center.
