Pleasant Valley boys basketball coach Ken Piontkowski picked up his 200th career win as the Bears' head coach on Saturday.

PV also enjoyed a first-place finish from wrestler Michael Dahlstrom at the Reno Tournament of Champions.

Pleasant Valley head coach Ken Piontkowski picked up his 200th career win as the Bears posted a 47-39 non-league victory over Nazareth.

Marquis Brown's team-high 16 points was followed closely by teammate Selwyn Wright's 15. Nick Stanovick added 10.

For Nazareth, Grant Searfoss and Tyler Smith each had 12.

PV also won the JV contest, 49-46.

Leading the Panthers (3-1) in scoring were Nate Mathewson with 14 points, Thad Ogozalek with 13 and Nick McArdle with nine.

Jim Thorpe opened up a 16-0 first-quarter lead and cruised to an easy 52-17 win over Williams Valley.

The Olympians' Celeste Robinson poured in a game-high 20 points while Kristin Lawrence added 11, including three three-pointers.

Thorpe also won the JV game, 30-25.

Penn Manor Tournament

Panther Valley participated in the 25th annual Penn Manor Holiday Wrestling Tournament over the weekend.

Two Panthers placed in the event, which draws over 20 schools.

Len Ogazalek went 4-2 at 106 pounds to bring home a seventh-place finish while John Horvath placed eighth at 195 with a 2-3 mark. PV's Zach Glassic had a 2-2 record at 126 but didn't place.

Zigarski Memorial

Tournament

Tamaqua crowned three champions at the fourth annual Randy Zigarski Memorial Wrestling Tournament over the weekend at Mount Carmel.

Colin Mashack (113 pounds), Evan Mashack (152) and Brandon Silkowski (160) all claimed gold at the six-team event.

Silkowski not only earned the title at 160, but also won the award for the most pins in the least amount of time. He recorded five falls in 4:08.

The Raiders, who took third in team scoring, also received a runner-up finish from Dylan Rynkiewicz (126).

Reno Tournament

of Champions

Pleasant Valley's Michael Dahlstrom claimed the individual championship at 126 pounds in the Reno Tournament of Champions over the weekend in Nevada.

The Bears actually had three of their wrestlers place in the top three.

Dahlstrom, who earned his 100th career victory earlier in the tourney, gained his title by defeating Easton's Peter Stanley, 3-0, in the finals.

Sean Bianco (113 pounds) turned in a second place at the tourney, which featured 90 different schools, while Kenny Yenovich (106) ended third.

SWIMMING

Tamaqua-Southern Lehigh

The Blue Raiders faced off against the Spartans in the swimming lanes and returned home with two losses, as the boys dropped a 113-51 decision, while the girls lost, 113-57.

Individually for the locals, there was a sole winner, as Joann Butkus prevailed in the 50 Freestyle.
