Zion Church tours given in Tamaqua

Saturday, December 17, 2011
Zion Stone Church tour guide, Tim Stahl, explained how parishioners would use this heavy duty crank to lift coal ash buckets from the cellar. The device is no longer needed now since they no longer have a coal furnace. Stahl also pointed out that in 1928, it cost only $134 to heat the building for an entire year. In 1935, it cost $345 a year, and the annual salary for the minister was $2,400.
