A Northampton County man is dead and a Jim Thorpe woman seriously injured after a violent head-on crash that occurred late Monday night along SR145, just south of the Treichler's Bridge, in North Whitehall Township, Lehigh County.

The victim was identified by the Lehigh County coroner's office as James Shiner, 41, of 4036 Mountain View Drive, Danielsville, Lehigh Township.Shiner was southbound about 200 feet south of the bridge at about 9:44 p.m., state police at Bethlehem said. His vehicle entered the northbound lane and collided with the vehicle operated by the Jim Thorpe woman.Shiner, whose vehicle burst into flames, was pronounced dead at the scene by deputy coroner Craig Hanzl, at 10:35 p.m.The 24-year-old woman and her passengers, all who have not been identified by troopers, were taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. Extent of injuries suffered was not available.The road was closed for a time and it was reported a medical helicopter landed at the scene to take at least one patient to LVH.
