Santa will make his annual visit to the Tamaqua Public Library during the annual Preschool Children's Christmas party, scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 12. All infants and toddlers are welcome.

In addition to a gift from Santa, children will sing seasonal songs, make crafts and hear stories from the librarian.

Also at the library this month, guest speaker Sue Paul will present a discussion on the secret codes and messages found in quilts used to help slaves find their way to freedom. The program will begin at 6 p.m. on Dec. 8. The program is free and light refreshments will be served.

West Penn tree lighting

The West PennTownship Sixth Annual Christmas tree lighting will take place at 5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 3, at the annex building. The event is sponsored by the West PennTownship Lions Club.

Cookies, coffee and hot cocoa will be provided.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional and 10:30 a.m. contemporary worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery care and primary church are provided at the later service. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the budget committee will meet at 11:45 a.m.

Activities for next week will include: Wednesday, Prayer time at 8:30 a.m., GriefShare and Tamaqua Youth Ministry will meet at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, musician rehearsal at 9 a.m., Praise practice at 9:30 a.m.

St. John UCC

The Rev. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. service this Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ.

The weekly service is broadcast on radio station WLSH, AM1410, at 11:30 a.m. Sundays.

Activities for next week will include: Wednesday, choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.

First UM

The Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church. Sunday school classes for adults will be held at 9:30 a.m.

Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, quilters meet at 9:30 a.m., United Methodist Women's Christmas party at 5:30 p.m., in the fellowship hall; Wednesday, Chancel Choir practice at 7:30 p.m.

The Heidelberg Handbell Choir will present a concert at 7 p.m. on Dec. 9, followed by a Christmas cookie social.

Calvary UM

The Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at this Sunday's 10:25 a.m. worship service in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church. The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, an evening of praise, worship and Bible study will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday prayer and praise services are held at 7 p.m. in the church.

Upcoming events include: Child Evangelism Fellowship Party, 10 a.m., Dec. 10; annual Christmas dinner party, Dec. 11; annual Sunday school Christmas program, 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 18.

On Christmas Day, there will be one worship service, at 8:15 a.m.

Zion Lewistown

The Rev. Sunny Stock will officiate at the 10 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include communion.
