Carbon County veterans who have yet to take an all-expenses paid bus trip to our nation's capitol are in luck.
The fourth annual veterans trip to Washington DC will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 4. Veterans will travel on two busloads to D.C., leaving about 6:30 a.m. On the return home, they will stop in York for a country buffet dinner.
Once again sponsored by Richard and Darlene Nothstein of Palmerton, the trip is for any veteran who hasn't made the trip in each of the past three years who either entered the service from Carbon County, or those who currently live in the county.
They will visit the Vietnam, World War II, Korean War, Marine and Tomb of the Unknowns memorials.
"They are awesome monuments that all Americans should see," Richard Nothstein said. "Especially members of the "Greatest Generation", and those who protected those gains later in Korea, Vietnam, Eastern Europe and the Mid-East."
Those who meet the requirements and would like to attend must fill out a form, which is available at the Country Harvest Family Market, Carbon County Veterans Affairs Office, local veterans' posts, or the office of state Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon).
The forms may be returned to Richard Nothstein, 526 Harvard Court, Palmerton, PA 18071, or dropped off or mailed to the Country Harvest Family Market, 572 Delaware Avenue, Palmerton.
The deadline to apply for the trip is Wednesday, Sept. 14. Reservations will be accepted until all seats are filled.
