Vavra impressive once again

Allysa Vavra's busy and highly successful week at the 2011 ConocoPhillips USA National Swimming Championships continued on Friday.

Competing at Stanford University's Avery Aquatic Center, Vavra swam in the finals of two more events. She finished 10th in the "C" final of the 200 backstroke and placed ninth in the "C" final of the 200 butterfly.Vavra, who entered Friday's 200 backstroke as the 36th seed, finished 23rd in the morning prelims. She turned in a time of 2:15.84. In the "C" final, Vavra's time was 2:18.55.The Panther Valley graduate and Indiana University swimmer, came into Friday morning's 200 butterfly prelims as the 40th seed. As she has done all week, Vavra vastly improved on her seeding as she swam a 2:14.27 to finish 23rd and qualify for the "C" final. Last night in the final, Vavra posted a time of 2:15.72.Earlier in the week, Vavra finished fourth overall in the 400 IM and second in the "B" final of the 200 IM.Vavra's busy week will conclude on Saturday when is scheduled to return the pool in the 200 breaststroke. She is seeded 64th out of 157 swimmers. Prelims for the 200 breaststroke will be held during the noon session. Finals for the event will be during the 9 p.m. session.Also taking part in the 200 backstroke prelims on Friday was Marian High School graduate and Georgia University swimmer Kristen Shickora. Shickora placed 51st out of 190 competitors with a time of 2:17.74. That failed to earn her a spot in the A,B or C finals.Shickora, who finished first in the "B" final of the 100 backstroke on Wednesday, is also expected to be in action on Saturday as part of the Athens Bulldog Swim Club 4x100 medley relay team. The team is seeded fourth in the event.
