Nearly 50 volunteer firefighters are still on duty on Broad Mountain in the Hauto Valley, hoping to prevent a blaze from reaching cabins which dot the northern shore of Hauto Dam. W. Righter Reabold, Jim Thorpe, inspector from the Department of Forests and Waters in Carbon County, said, "The fire, in general, is under control." Reabold's face was severely cut from low hanging branches as he directed fire fighting crews and operated a bulldozer. The fire crept to within 30 feet of some cabins. About 450 acres have burned.
