Kidder crash critically injures woman

A woman is fighting for her life after being involved in a violent crash Sunday afternoon along SR940 in Kidder Township, Carbon County. The crash occurred just before 3 p.m. as the victim was traveling east and apparently failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. Her late model Chevrolet left the right berm, vaulting over the guardrail impacting and snapping off a utility pole. The car continued airborne striking three trees as the victim was ejected. The vehicle came to rest on its wheels. The driver was found lying on the ground between the car and the trees. The first to arrive on scene notified the Carbon County communications of their believing the victim was deceased. Kidder Township police, members of the Lake Harmony ambulance and fire company raced to the scene determining the victim was alive but in critical condition. She was treated at the scene and flown via PennStar helicopter to St. Luke's Hospital in Fountain Hill. The downed utility pole brought live electrical wires as well as cable and telephone cables down across the roadway. The road was still closed at 11 p.m. The crash scene is located just west of the Carbon-Monroe border. Cpl. Bruce Berger examines the wreckage of Sunday's crash.
