The Weatherly Area PTA will hold its second annual Wrecker Power Walk on May 26, beginning at 9 a.m.

The walk will begin at the middle school entrance of Weatherly Elementary/Middle School on Sixth Street in Weatherly. Students in Kindergarten through second grade will start their walks at 9 a.m.; grades three through five, 9:45 a.m.; and grades six through eight, 10:30 a.m.

The event is being held not only to encourage exercise, but also to raise funds for the 2011-2012 school year.

Proceeds will be used to sponsor assemblies, class parties, awards, field trips, school supplies, and programs for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. The PTA has set a goal of $10,000.

In the Power Walk last year, a total of $6,940.93 was achieved due to the efforts of sponsors, dedicated students, parents and staff of the Weatherly Area School District.

Refreshments for the Wrecker Power Walk will be provided by Nestle, Tulpehoken, and the WASD PTA. All participants will receive an Applebee's kid's meal and Rita's gift certificates.

Pledge forms and donations should be returned no later than May 20.

Wrecker Power Walk t-shirts will also be available. Checks should be made payable to the Weatherly Area PTA.

The Wrecker Power Walk is open to the public. Registration is required. Participants wishing to register can do so at the school or by calling Shay Wagner at 233-2900 and Cheryl Hirko at 579-8250.
