Rain barrel workshop

Stonehedge Gardens, South Tamaqua, in partnership with the Saucon Creek watershed Association of the Lehigh Valley, will sponsor a build your own rain barrel workshop on May 14. The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, at Stonehedge Gardens, 15 Dairy Rd., in West Penn Township.

The community conservation workshop is designed for homeowners. Participants will be guided through the process of constructing their own, fully functioning, rain barrel. Saucon Creek Watershed Association volunteers will provide tools for sharing, as well as their vast experience and knowledge. There will be three individual, one hour long sessions, beginning at 9 a.m. Participants may select which session they choose to attend.Rain barrels are great water saving devices and are ideal for the home garden. The barrel sits under a downspout and collects water each time it rains. The collected rainwater is then useful for multiple purposes, such as, water the lawn or garden plants, washing cars/patio furniture, etc. This helps conserve groundwater, utilizes high quality water for plants and decreases water bills.Pre-registration, and payment, are required. Each participant will receive a plastic, 55 gallon drum and all the parts required to build a rain barrel. For more information, or to register, contact Jim Wilson at 484-239-9977 or email
