Give and Take Day
As part of Chestnuthill Township's 41st Anniversary Earth Day Activities, Close the Loop, LLC will be coordinating a Give and Take Day on Saturday, April 16, at the Chestnuthill Township Park on Route 715 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Give and Take Days are a way to reuse items that are too good to throw away, but one doesn't have a use for anymore.
Bring any reusable items between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., then take away anything from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (it's free and one doesn't have to bring something to take something).
Example of what one can bring: furniture and household goods, pots/pans, books, CDs, DVDs, toys, bric-a-brac, bikes, plants, kitchenware, garden tools, furniture (must be in good shape to be accepted), quality clothes, etc.
Things that will not be accepted include: electronics, TVs, computer monitors, tires, etc.
Note: Township residents can take electronics to the township recycling center at no charge.
One must provide one's own vehicle for transporting items. There will be volunteers assisting and reviewing the items being dropped off.

Palm Sunday Masses
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, has announced its Masses for the Palm Sunday week end. They are set for 5 p.m., Saturday, April 16, and for 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., as well as at 12 p.m. on Sunday, April 17.
The Pocono Parkinson's Support Group will meet at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 16, at the Loder Building, 1st floor, in East Stroudsburg.

Zion Lutheran Church's Women of the ELCA will meet at 2 o'clock, Tuesday, April 19 at the Brodheadsville church.
Close the Loop
On Monday, April 18, the Western Pocono Women's Club (WPWC) will welcome Rita Lacey from "Close the Loop."
This organization works with U.S. manufacturers to recycle waste materials, such as tires, plastics and glass, to build high quality products. The WPWC is a service group that meets the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at Effort Methodist Church. The Western Pocono Lions Club will meet at Ye Olde Saylors Inn in Saylorsburg on Wednesday, April 21. The speaker will be PDG Judy Dudley, who will speak about the Club Excellence Program. Gathering time is at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting at 7 p.m.
The Monroe County Senior Spelling Bee will be held from 1-3 p.m., Thursday, April 21 at the Hughes Library Edinger Community Room. Folks ages 55 and older are eligible to compete and vie for prizes including: 1st prize $100, 2nd $50.
The event is sponsored by Hughes Library, RSVP and Area Agency on Aging.

An Easter egg hunt for children 10 and under will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 23, at the Haney-VanBuskirk Park on Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg, next to the Saylorsburg Post Office. Rain date is April 30.

Light of the World Church, Stroudsburg, wants to serve an appreciation dinner to all Iraq/Afghan veterans on May 7 between 1700 and 1900 hours.

The Monroe County Firemen's Association will be conducting its 16th Annual Memorial Service at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 15, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Fish Hill Road in Tannersville.
This year firefighters and support team members from Monroe County Fire Companies who passed away in the 2010 calendar year will be memorialized. The service will be conducted by chaplains from the fire companies and includes a candle ceremony and tolling of the bell for the fallen, a selection by the choir of St. Paul's Church, an organ solo and a bag piper.

Free animal show
Animal Alley Ministries will be at Countryside Alliance Church, Brodheadsville, at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 14. One can see and learn about animals such as sugar gliders, geckos, prairie dogs and more. Animal Alley uses these animals to teach character building lessons.
Countryside Alliance is located on Route 115 and Countryside Drive, Brodheadsville.
