Tamaqua Police have released the name of the driver involved in a hit-and-run accident that took place in the borough on March 28.
The accident seriously injured a pedestrian, 20-year-old Robert A. Rehrig of Tamaqua, who was walking in the 100 block of Lafayette Street.
Steven Christopher Kupetz of Tamaqua was scheduled to be arraigned this morning before District Judge Steven Bayer on charges that included one felony and one misdemeanor count of hit-and-run that resulted in serious bodily injury, failure to stop and provide information/render aid, and two counts of careless driving.
Rehrig was walking along Lafayette Street that night, at approximately 9 p.m., when he was struck by a maroon 1997 Subaru. The vehicle left the scene and was later found parked on Green Street in the borough. Rehrig suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to St. Luke's Hospital, Bethlehem. He was released from the hospital on April 2 and continues to recover at home.
Patrolman Matthew Bynon is the arresting officer in the case.
